our new toy

last week, we finally did it! we bought our very own digital camera, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2. and the borrowed Olympus finally found its way back home (thanks for letting us borrow it for the past nine months, mom and dad!) our new camera is pretty spiffy: 5 megapixels, 6x optical zoom, and this cool thing called "optical image stabilizer", which counterbalances that shaky hand you get when you press the button, so the pictures look much clearer. isn't it pretty?

look who's talking...

our little man, who has been saying "bow, bob...." or some similar variant for the past couple of weeks and mumbling what i was quite sure to be "mama" when he cried has spoken his first official word. while i was out grocery shopping yesterday, apparently he went on and on saying "mom, mamama, mama..." AND as soon as i stepped in the door, he looked at me and said "mamama!" it was absolutely adorable!

nine months old today!

oh, how time flies!

a busy week

this week has been so busy. most weeks are busy around here, but this week was a real killer:

Monday was Rob's birthday, and we had carpet installed in the basement. The carpet looked great, but clashed with the current paint colour on the walls so, naturally, we decided that it needed to be painted that day (why wait?). So we went to Home Depot, purchased paint, and (with some help) painted most of the basement.

Tuesday wasn't too bad. I don't really remember Tuesday. But Judah and I were both very tired and a little under the weather, and Judah started to seem a little sniffly...

Wednesday
, Judah came down with the inevitable cold, on top of the nasty teething that just does not seem to be letting up around here. Rob also painted the rest of the basement and put up the table for my scrapbooking/laptop/laundry workstation.

Thursday, Rob brought home the lazy boy from my parents' house and oversized television that he scored from work, and put that in the basement. Amidst all this craziness and cranky-sick-baby-ness, I managed to do a pile of groceries and cleaning and baking (thanks so much for your help, mom!), as well, in preparation for the two parties (friends, Saturday night; Rob's family, Sunday afternoon) this weekend.

It looks very nice in the basement now! We will eventually put up some trim and doors, but we're very happy with this for now!

Friday, we were all very tired (why, you ask?). And then Friday night, just when I was about to put Judah to bed and watch a movie with Rob, I suddenly came down with a 24-hour bug of some sort. So I slept (not straight, still had to nurse the sick and teething baby) from 9:00 pm Friday to 8:00 am Saturday.

The weekend was great, though. I was feeling much better on Saturday morning, but still needed to rest, so I stayed home while Rob took Judah out to the bazaar at Calvin Christian School. I sat on the couch and watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the movie I had missed the night before). It was so strange not having to take care of anyone for a change. And of course, the birthday parties turned out great, as well. So our busy week ended in a super weekend!
